Verify Contractor Licensing

First, before accepting any estimates from potential contractors, visit the Mississippi State Board of Contractors to verify licensing. All roofing contractors are required by law to be licensed to enter into a bid for contract.

Review Estimates and Insurance

Each contractor that is chosen should be able to inform you of the products available and advise you of the ones best suited for your project. Each estimate submitted should clearly outline the brand and quantity of materials to be used and include a detailed breakdown of costs, encompassing labor, materials, permits, taxes, cleanup, and additional fees. Each contractor should verify that they will provide a copy of their general liability, worker’s compensation, and auto insurance policy if selected as the contractor.

Signing the Contract

After the selection of a roofing contractor, a contract should be drafted and signed by both parties. Any deposit required should be paid only upon signing the contract. The contractor is responsible for all necessary permits, as all roof replacements require permits. Once the roof has been completed and inspected, and a final invoice has been submitted, the final payment should be made. A reputable roofing contractor will not request payment until the project is fully completed.
